——> a lovely, snowy, oh-so-treacherous commute to the studio yesterday… and getting more snow today. i’m gonna just hide in here for a while and play with fire….

——> what can i say about this piece? with roots and tendrils, my work grows organically… quite literally at times. but then, the words to describe the process, the meaning, the feel of the piece, these words escape me.

a sapphire the deep green color of moss, with vine-like tendrils rooting the marquis shape, what i consider two points of the compass, textured with fallen stars.

perhaps it’s about direction. perhaps it’s about finding one’s own way. perhaps it’s about grounding. or floating. perhaps it’s about this part of the planet preparing for dormancy, the greenery fading, roots delving deep, tawny, neutral colors taking the place of vibrant flowers and blue skies, the winter stars about to shine for us in the darkness. it’s a moody piece, for sure.

if i were to guess, about 85% or more of the silver in this piece is created from reclaimed scraps from my bench. melted, rolled, melted some more, scrap and silver dust sprinkled atop for more texture, then shaped and formed and kissed by fire.

perhaps it’s about reclamation, reimagining, rebirth.
